Josh & Brandy's Journey to Guatemala

Updated: Jan 2

Josh is an Army and three-time Iraq war veteran. After his military service, he joined the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department, where he serves as a patrol supervisor.  For over 20 years, he’s carried the sword for his country and community.  He has seen firsthand the brokenness of this world and its desperate need for a savior. Since being saved, his eyes have been opened to the radically simple truth that the gospel is the answer to the world's most difficult challenges, including social justice. In and through Christ, the enemy he was taught to fight and fear has become the neighbor he has learned to love with deep compassion.

Josh studied Criminal Justice and intended to retire from the police department, but that changed drastically after a short-term mission trip in the summer of 2023.  The people and the country of Guatemala weighed heavily on his heart, and he began to prepare to return more equipped the following year.  He studied Spanish and enrolled in M.A. in Church Planting at SEBTS.  Josh led a team the following summer and, with a changed heart and open eyes, the Lord called Josh to leave civil service and solely pursue his kingdom purpose in Central America.

Brandy found respite from her dysfunctional childhood home in the structure, routine, and safety of public school. Her childhood experiences drove her to a career in education. She has a heart for underprivileged students and a passion for leveraging literacy and learning as the pathway out of poverty. She has an M.S. in Curriculum and Instruction and has National Board Certification in Reading Language Arts.  The Lord has graciously taught her that His people are destroyed from lack of knowledge, not lack of education, and that spiritual poverty can only be addressed by the gospel. Through a sweet, vulnerable request from a younger lady, who wanted to learn how to read and understand her Bible, the door of women’s discipleship was opened to Brandy. There she found the beautiful marriage of God's gifting and His true calling on her life.

Walking in their spiritual gifts, they are not ashamed of the gospel, for it has the power to save. They are passionately dedicated not only to evangelism, but to equipping and walking alongside their brothers and sisters, helping them seek and find life more abundantly. They are preparing to serve pastors, their families, and their churches in Guatemala through pastoral care, discipleship, and education.

As we prepare, and as we go, our greatest need is partners who will pray with us and provide financial support for the work that God is doing in Guatemala.  If you are interested in being a co-laborer as we carry out the Great Commission, please visit our giving page.
